This video demonstrates the concept of BlueSpot system.
This video is the tutorial of the mobile application. (It's Hungarian only)
Have you ever wanted to check out the mood at your favorite hangouts by asking folks who happen to be there? We have.
BlueSpot is an exciting experiment connecting nearly fifty locations in Budapest - party places, coffee-houses, restaurants - into a free communications system, which you can join using your mobile. Using the new feature added to your phone you’ll be able to get in touch with people who you either know or not, but are at the right place at the right time anyway- the location you want to reach, that is.
You can send messages to people you don't know and are killing their time at another coffee house or sit-out place, i.e., are somwhere near a BlueSpot point. These messages can be seen by everyone around, and can be replied to by them.

When you are near a BlueSpot location and TURN YOUR MOBILE’S BLUETOOTH DEVICE ON, the system will send you a little program. If you authorize it, the program will install on your mobile, and you can start sending messages between network points right away. No matter which BlueSpot point you are at, you’ll be able to reach all the other 52 points and those near them as well. (Click here for the descriptions of phones compatible with the system and installation instructions.)
If you’re wondering what’s going on at any given BlueSpot location right now, you can use this Internet page to send messages. The online version has the very same features as the mobile one. Try it out now!
That’s because BlueSpot is not based on any regular cellular network, but the infrastructure built by our team. This also means that your messages will not be sent as regular sms-es.
As a matter of fact, BlueSpot is a non-profit university project.
The messaging system will operate at the locations non-stop between 01.10.07 and 30.12.07. During this time, researchers working on the project will collect the anonymous messages without names or any other personally identifiable data. Later on the database will be analyzed and searched for location-dependent characteristics of the information they convey. This serves the purposes of one of the project goals, which is surveying the most popular topics people discuss in the course of those three months.
